3D models file format

Anyone got any idea how to edit the 3d models?
Looks like they are stored in .osm and .oss file format.
The program "3D Object Converter" can open them but not save them.
So there is no way to create or modify new models atm.
There is almost no info out there for .oss and osm.
The only other game which used them seems to be "XIII Century: Death or Glory".

I tried to open those files with Blender. Tried out several plugins but It didn't work. :(

I remember that someone from GSC said months or a year ago, that we will get a plugin or something for the files.

But I can understand that they are busy with fixing the bugs and all the stuff first. We have to be patient.

Very nice! I hope you tell us the method you open import7export those files soon. I hope it is not just Ninja ripper or something like that...
:) I can't wait to analyze all those modells and textures.

Are you already a member in our modding team ?

No, it's not a ripper or so. It's my own tool.
And no, I'm not on your team cuz I'm not a moder but a programmer ;)

Programming is needed for modding too. You should join us. Can you shar your tools with us?

It's still WIP as I don't have enough spare time, but here's something for you to start ;)
    Cossacks 3 Model Viewer v0.1
With this tool you can load, view, play the animation and export game models as OBJ files.

Fantastic work. Great thanks man. So the modding/adding of Units and buildings can start now.

    Hi guys!
I apologies for the inconveniences, but that version of the tool is broken and will give you the error message "This application failed to start because it could not find or load Qt platform plugin "windows"".

    Here's fixed version.
    3d-orange.net/files/C3ModelViewer_fixed.zip

    Only buildings and other props.

    BTW, here's small info:
OSM files - these files contains static models or vertex-animated models (morphed) (fully supported at the moment).
OSS files - these files contains skinned (animated with bones) models (like units and so on).

I'll try to add the ability to convert models from OBJ back to the game format today.
Unit's support will be added soon.

    Stay tuned ;)

egnaro is a genious. The OBJ format makes it possible to edit the files in various 3D programms. This is really awesome. Great thanks!

I can open and export/import the buildings now.

Textures of the buildings are in: cks 3/data/materials/buildings/

Something is strange about those dds textures. When I open them in your programm everything looks fine.
If I open them in another programm I can just see black with a few white details?

    Problem solved!

Ok found the issue. There is an alpha mask over the image. Photoshop with DDS plugin can see everything.

Fantastic tool. This is going to help us so much.
First we can see as Furious Peasant said, the models are quite heavy for a RTS, which means we've got quite a poly cap quite high to play with, which is fun. But damn it's all going to be about those textures.... Oldskool way!

egnaro I can't wait for you to crack the .oss formats so we can have a look at the units!

    And here's Cossacks 3 Model Viewer v0.2
    3d-orange.net/files/C3ModelViewer_v02.zip

Now you can open any Cossacks 3 model (OSM or OSS), view it, play the animation and export as OBJ.

    Roadmap:
Version 0.3: add the ability to export animated model, so please tell me your preferred animation format (like SMD, or MD5 etc.)
Version 0.4: convert static models from OBJ back to OSM format
Version 0.5: convert skinned models from format you choose back to OSS format
Version 0.6 - 1.0: Anything you need, you name it!
