Hello all, Seeing as we now have an Off Topic section, I'd like to know if we have any boardgamers within the Cossacks 3 forum and if so what board games do you enjoy playing? Favourite tabletop game? Most recent addition? Your last-played game? Please share! Myself? Most recently I have been playing Agricola, Carcassonne and Splendor (Agricola being one of my favourites!).
I really like paradox interactive games. I play very long time in Crusader Kings II and also started Europa Universalis IV. These are only non Cossacks games which I play now. I also like gothic series, risen, mass effect, street fighter and mafia
Carcassonne ! I had a lot of fun with this but eventually I lost a lot of part. Last time I played a board game it was Talisman, if I had to descibre it, it's like a really simplified D&D. I also played a game called the forbidden desert, a cooperative game.
The last board game i played was Risk. Although we are talking about over 10 years ago now. I even had that on the PC too, such good times with friends.
I don't play board games these days. I remember a game I loved to play as a kid. It was called Buccaneer. I think there were four to eight players situated around an inland sea. In the middle of that sea was a treasure island. Treasures included diamonds, pearls and barrels of rum. Each player had a ship and you drew crew cards. Black crew cards of value about 1 to 3 controlled your sailing speed and red crew cards indicated the fighting crew you had on board. You could sail to the island for treasure or attack other ships and take their treasure. Great game for kids. Most treasure won of course.
Though I've never heard of it, it does sound like a great game indeed for kids! I grew up with the staples - Monopoly, Cluedo, Risk etc, which actually all put me off boardgames for 15+ years! It's only been the past 5 years where I've discovered how great they can be (particularly the German-style ones in my opinion!).
Aaaaa you talk about board games xD I wrote about normal PC games. Sorry hehe. The best game is Eurobusiness and Monopoly!
I don't remember having ever finished one game of Monopoly, either we were bored before or we would fight. Monopoly has this amazing power to make angry anybody Opening a cupboard, I saw two really basic game, I played them so much yet totally forgot about them, the game of the goose and the game of the little horses (close to Ludo)
I use to play Monopoly ... used to break the bank all the time. Considered buying a second game so I could incorporate that cash into just one game. Never happened though. A second board game I use to play was RISK. Both Monopoly and RISK could last for days. And of course I use to play AD&D table top long before it came out on computer. No board per say, but lots of 1/4 grid graph paper and lots of number 2 pencils. LOL.
I have played many board games in my life. Monopoly, life, Risk. But I have one companies games I payed with real passion. Has anyone heard of Avalon Hill? Their games were strategy games. Africa Korps, Third Reich, 1776, Gettysburg. I spent hours of my youth fighting these battles. These were extremely complex games, and we would always dream that if someone could make them work on a computer they would be rich! I guess I should have tried it for myself.
I briefly played Tactics II and a big D-Day game which were two classic Avalon Hill games. Tactics II was fun. D-Day was just too big to play in my opinion. The mechanics of such board games became stupendous, their rule books intricate and they took many hours and even days to play. Computers are great as they can automate all the rules and counting and pseudo-randomisation necessary. However, computers made RTS possible which is an even better game format IMHO.

Ah yes, same here! Such a good game and one I tend to shamefully forget whilst looking through my modern boardgame collection!
Played many of the Avalon Hill games. Strangely enough games which played great on boards were boring when they tried to make computer version for example the Third Reich. My favorite AH game was Tigers in the Snow about the Battle of the Bulge. With Monopoly, a friend and I tired with the classic rules we introduced many additional rules, mainly new loans in addition to mortgages, with rising interests rates when you were already in debt. More money in the market extended the games and made it more fun. We also privatized the jail you could buy it for $200 and the $5o penalty went to the owner rather than to the bank. Many other small and fun changes
