Does anybody know dear friends if there is going to be any demo released? Or it is not a thing that happens now? I remember my first contact with cossacks1, it was a demo on the CD with SuddenStrike game in 2000 I really liked a lot. Then I tried demo, there was only Spain, I loved it and immediatelly then in 2001/2 I bought cossacks!

Same for me! Spain may have been the only nation but it still got me hooked. I always remember going out and buying the full game as soon as it was available - mmm giant PC game boxes and thick manuals!

Demo are good, when you don't know a game it's always nice to be able to test it a bit. Steam do occasionally one of those free week but it's limited in comparison to a demo.

Well, there are tons of "Let's play" and gameplay videos on Youtube for every game... So unlike in 2001 when there were mostly slow internet connections with a data limit, nowadays having a demo version (on CD) is not really necessary to see what a game is like... On top of that, if you don't like a game, you can refund it on steam for up to 2 weeks after purchase, as long as you haven't played it for more than 2 hours.

Now they have beta and Open Beta. That is what replace the old demos. I never played the Cossacks 1 game through a demo but I did play quite a few games through demos and yes it was fun. Now beta is pretty much the replacement.

But you can't play the game after the beta, and beta aren't always free.
"Let's play" are great indeed but you don't have the real feelings of the game, it's happened to me to have brought a game that seemed great in a "Let's play" and discover after that finally it wasn't my type of game. You don't have this problem with a demo.
The new refund system on Steam is a good thing though allow you to have somewhat a demo before really deciding.

What do you mean? Let's play wasn't free. You had to purchase something else in order to get it. Most Betas are free. The links can be shared with a bigger audience than you could through another game. Most games that you play in Let's play are not released yet so you have to wait anyways, just like the beta. What's the difference? The refund system of steam is the only great alternative

Let's play on youtube like Fly say, you don't pay to watch someone else play the game, sorry if I wasn't clear.
Generally I never buy game on day one (much less pre-order) and wait a long time for the price to drop and only look to things relative to the game a few day before, this is why I like demo.

Oh never mind I thought you were referring to some lets play from the old game box demos. Never mind, totally misunderstood that.

I used to love being able to demo a game before deciding if i wanted to buy or not. Sadly not many games do this anymore... in fact i personally don't know of a single game i have bought in the last 5 years that has had a demo. Most have a beta you can take part in if you pre-order or some kind of sign up.

A demo would be very good though. I plan to pre-order right away anyway but there are likely many people who have never played a Cossacks game before and might want to check it out without taking a gamble.

I have asked in other topic and they say it will beta only. I want a Demo too because is very important to see gameplay and optimization before buy game but in last years games was release whitout demos

I'd like a demo so I can play the game as soon as possible. However I realise that making a demo takes time which could be spent making the main game so I'm not too bothered by it.
