Heroes of annihilated empires in 2006 maded by GSC That was a great symbiosis of RTS & RPG I've played it mach
Yay! I have all the Cossacks/Cossacks 2/AC tracks on a special playlist wish i play on with every strategie game,I specialy like the Britain cossacks2 track its my all time favorit! for me its the best game soundtracks ever made with dawn of war coming 2nd place!
I loved the Cossack sound tracks. I used to add them to my Europa Universalis games, which also has great music.
The Cossacks music really is some of the best game music out there, it just seems to combine calm and excitement at all the right moments ^^.
Check this out if you a 40k fan like me and used to play dawn of war as kids this would make you realy nostalgic and calm: And a little quote from the emperor himself! ;p 'They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give themselves to me. Like clay I shall mould them and in the furnace of war I shall forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armour shall I clad them and with the mightiest gun shall they be armed. They will be untouched by plague or disease, no sickness will blight them. They will have tactics, strategies and machines such that no foe will best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the terror. They are the defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines... ...and they shall know no fear.' -The Emperor of Man
Haha yeah now that takes me back! Damn these games are getting reinstalled again, and from the CD too lol. (Though tbh I own hard copies and those on steam, not sure which one would be quicker haha)
This is all nice, but I still think that GSC is making a mistake by trying to produce its own track,. It should use classical music both non-military and military for the game. in HAWKS HEW mod whenever you moved a French unit it would play La Victoire est a Nous, or something similar, The British Grenadiers or Lilibulero for the British units, Preaussen Gloria for the Prussians, and so on.
Maybe they can not use classical music in connection with the commercial rights to it. In addition, C2 is own soundtrack was very good
Classical music is just a terrible idea. the whole thing about classical music is to listen to it in a quit and calm atmosphere and enjoy the music, but listening to it while playing a game like cossacks where you have to micro manage workers, soldiers, buildings, defense, offence ect...the game is so tense that it would make listening to classical music irritating, on the other hand the original OST was quit a combination of melodic/epic tracks that suited the game better, and I realy hope they go for a remastered version of the original tracks in cossack3! A simple example for what i said above is Empire/Napoleon TotalWar, while playing in the campaign map youll hear classical music, because that more suited to the gameplay (chilling around in a map of the world with no worries, having all the time in the world to plan your next move) but once you start a battle, the game wont bore you with piano and violin, but exites you with epic music wish is more suited for the tense gamplay.
In a mod having classic music is totally possible. However in the original version of the game is nearly impossible because most of the good classic music has copyright and that would be illegal.
Just to make sure, I might have used a short cut to write this but I explained what I mean in detail in another thread. I have a playlist of music that I listen to when playing cossacks. I have different versions depending on the PT played. I try to time it so "truly" classical music like Bach, Haydn etc. plays only during the PT = a peaceful development. By the time the PT is over the military marches of the epoch start to play. For the purpose of simplification in the post above I also called them a classical music, although Preusussens Glory or The British Grenadiers would be different from the soothing tunes of Mozart and Haydn. I actually like the dramatic change from peaceful music into military marches when the PT is over. As far as the rights are concerned we can safely assume that for most of the pieces in question are music which is now in the public domain, so instead of hiring original composer GSC could just chose a performer.
