Looking for C1 help

    Is there anyone around still capable of modding Cossacks 1, who knows how color palettes for the game work? I would appreciate it a lot.

    Never could get my head round modding C1, by comparison modding C3 is a lot easier but the lack of a proper ingame editor is very annoying.:mad:

    Don't remember much, its been a long time.

    The GP packing tool had folders in them labelled ForAC and ForCos or something like that, in each there were folders named 0 & 1 with different color palettes depending on the game. You had to copy them out into the tool folder for it to work properly depending on the game you would pack for.

    These files (folders 0 & 1) are in the base game as well though.

    Also I think interface files used different palettes, not quite anymore sure which ones.

    Oh the GP tool, right... Totally forgot about it.

    Well I'll go do some testing on the textures but would love to know also what are the ones used for the interface as well. You never know when you will need to touch that too. How could one figure the interface palettes though? Any trick behind that?

    I got the textures yey, thanks Ebel.

    After some solid digging last weekend, looks like I'm out of luck on what @Ebel had first: bitmaps, bitmaps, bitmaps. Few of the bitmaps I exported with the use of the latest GSC File Utility, mainly those in the INTERFACE folder (not sure if there are more anywhere), seem to have varying colour ranges: for example, Irfan View shows the CAMPAIGN image has 246 or something like that colours instead of 256, with resolution of 1024x768 and these bitmaps are converted to 8bit.

    What did I do? Next I painted a black dot on the same image, saved it using the same settings and rebuild it in the .gsc package. Loaded up the game and bam, I see the same effect you have as the Windows 7 graphics bug: all sorts of messed colours (pink, white, green, yellow).

    There are few options around:

    1. GIMP/PS CS2 doesnt save the files with the same settings GSC used in 2001
    2. GSC File Utility import function is broken for the bitmaps alone.
