Okay, I have one. This is the Cockpit from one of my favorite WW2 era fighters. This plane has many innovative and creative designs to come out of the war. The question is what is the name of this fighter?
I'm so bad with military commander, I first thought of Oxenstierna but he isn't know as a cavalry officer. Well we learn something new everyday !
Well I guess that this thread is not as popular as it was on the Hawks forum. The answer is the P-39 Bell Air Cobra. I always loved the innovation used in this fighter. Mid engine with the engine behind the pilot! The propeller was attached by way of a hollow driveshaft, that the cannon located in the tail section fired through. This produced a well balanced plane. easy to fly and maneuver. You can read about it here if you are interested. http://acepilots.com/planes/p39_airacobra.html
So Daddio you still have the hand for next question, no ? (the link is very interesting by the way thank you)
Okay, I will give it one more try. This is the unit badge for my grandfathers composite unit during WW2. They fought against the Japanese on a 1000 mile march through the jungles of Burma. The question is what was the number of his unit?
The 5307th composite unit, merrill's marauders are quite easy to find http://www.nationalww2museum.org/see-hear/collections/focus-on/merrill.html
You are correct! They needed soldiers who knew how to handle Mules. and as a Farm boy from Oklahoma he was taken. After 12 weeks of constant contact with the enemy he was flown out with malaria waking up 2 weeks later. Finished up the war flying parachute supply drops to isolated troops. Your turn Foeurdr!
French regiment sent to New France by Louis XIV in order to defend the territory. They etablished several forts at strategical positions and participated in two expeditions. After peace was reached the soldier were encouraged to etablish themselves in the colony. What is the name of this regiment ?
One week passed so here the answer. It was the Carignan-Salières, dispatched in 1665 to New France mostly against the Iroquois. Of the two expedition launched the first was a complete failure ending lost during the winter while insufficiently equiped to face it. The second was more carefully prepared and successfull though it didn't really achieve anything. Once peace was reached with all the Iroquois confederacy the regiment was called back but the soldier who wanted to stay were encouraged to do so by giving them money and land. It was an attempt to populate New France. I thought we talked of this regiment on the forum but no, my mistake. The hand is free to the first one to ask a question !
I'm not sure, but we have a guy down at the Cosco that has to be around 300lbs? Or perhaps Pablo Escobar.
Pablo Escobar was one of the most succesfull and richest Drug dealers of the 20th century right. But the person I am looking for was born in the 19th century. A whole era was named for this person.
Nemezki wins. Queen Victoia yes. Under her reign Great Britain sold thousands of tons opium in china. When the chinese emperor made opium illegal, Great Brittain declaired war on china (first opium war). A few years later the second opium war followed in which France was also involved. There are no exact numbers of how many lives the opium destroyed in china. The opium itself was produced in india were the British forced peasants to grow drugs instead of food. The peasants were very badly paid and when there was an aridity in india, millions of people died there because of hunger. They could not ate the opium and had not enough money to buy food. If you want to see a good movie about it: You can watch "The Opium war" a chinese movie from the year 1997. It was very well done, for a chinese movie from that time. It is one of the most expensive chinese movies until today. Youtube link: (english subtitles)
