Hello Cossacks3 Fans! My name is StriKe and while digging through the files I found a huge amount of unused maps. It looks like they disabled all original Land maps and instead made a bunch of new ones without any water, called NoWater. These NoWater maps are the ones you see under the "Land" option in the menu screen. (See screenshots for example). It was a bit of a challenge but I re-enabled all original Land maps and to avoid confusion I called them "Original" in the menu screen. In short: There are two types of land maps; NoWater and Land. NoWater has no water and is called "Land" in the menu screen. Land is a combination of land with water and is called "Original" in the menu screen. The mod works like a charm and the "Original" maps can also be chosen via random. I think this is a great addition and a must have for every Cossacks player because it increases the variety of maps by a huge amount. I hope you all enjoy it Features of this mod: 221 new land maps, compared to the 33 we had previously. lakes, rivers, etc in normal land maps. (see screenshots for example) an extra option to choose from (see screenshots for example) This mod supports the Mod Manager, visible by the tag [MM]. You can get it here. Credits for the Mod Manager to Lieutenant-Général. Warranty: Feel free to use this mod as you like, however if you include this in another project I would appreciate some credit. Use it at your own risk! I haven't tried it in multiplayer and I do not know if it is allowed. Nice job. Can't wait for us to be able to add snow and rain effects, perhaps then we can truly feel like we are fighting in Russia along with Napoleon with a proper 19th Century mod.
I already did that while playing with the day & night cycle, if you want I can build a mod about it. But it's just a snow effect, no snow tiles or visible snow on the ground.
How about rain? Cause just letting it snow without actual snow on the ground would just break immersion.
Snow is the only inbuild effect in cossacks, which is relatively easy to re-enable. If you want to let it rain you would have to build a rain effect from scratch. Just look into the editor and you will find the snow effect, then you can use that as a template to build a rain effect. After that it's easy to enable. I'm not really into graphic so that is not something I would focus on. Maybe I take a look into it at some point but I'm pretty busy currently. And yes you are correct, the snow effect on the summer tiles are just meh, that is why I ignored it. Technically there is a full fledged time, date and even season manager in the game. So we could simulate a whole year cycle; all we need are the graphics for that. We currently only have summer tiles, so we need 3 other seasons. The potential in this game is there, just not used
So if some of us were to create autumn/winter variants of terrain and foliage, one could make them transition smoothly based on the time of year?
Well, If I remember correctly the tileset will be chosen when you create the game. So if it is winter you will create winter maps. I don't think that this changes while playing on a map.
@StriKe jk Did you create all those maps amnually or did you use imported hightmaps from the old games? It looks like in Cossacks 3 it is always summer I have lots of tillable snow textures. D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Cossacks 3\data\terrain\tiles\textures But when I put them in the directory. I can not use them in the editor. It seems that we have to use import options from the editor.
Those maps were already compiled in the game files but not used at all for some weird reason. It looks like they used them first and then decided to scrap them and instead build new ones without water. Maybe they haven't had water ready at that time or they just didn't like water on land maps. The biggest work honestly was to rebuild the UI to make it selectable. There is ton of deactivated code in the files by the way and everyday I find new bits and pieces but most of them aren't finished or just not useable. For example, while building the UI for my mod settings I found that they had build the UI to set hotkeys ingame but besides the UI everything in it is empty. Yes you have to use the inbuild game editor, it can compile all necessary files after you loaded them into it. It's pretty neat
Thank you for your reply. But can you discribe this a little more precisley: In CossacksBTW and AC you only needed to put the files in the right directory and then you could paint snow with the brush in the editor. But I don't know to import the files now in the new Cossacks 3 editor. I tried several things out but nothing worked.
Haven't done it myself yet, I just saw the summer tiles in the editor and that is also where the other tiles need to show up. I'm pretty sure I saw a load button there but I will take a look and come back to you. Edit: this is way more complicated than I thought. Sadly I have no clue about this graphic stuff, and using trial and error takes a way to long time.
I have been trying to install the Mappack using the both mod managers. In the unofficial manager it says "Mod isn't valid. Can't be found" ?? In the official Mod manager it shows in the Gam with an asterisk against it and doesny seem to work. Thanks in advance for your help.
